stage 6

Now when we hear a wall in our current era, we think of Trump's plan to build a wall between Mexico and the United States. ITS BOLOGNA. According to my my classmate Trump is in the right to do what he wants with illegals. Many immigrants migrate to the USA for a better opportunity. Why not welcome them here? Many say it's because they take all our jobs.... STUPID... They take the jobs that no one else wants and they are damn good at working hard. It is hard to see families torn apart because many people have been deported from the United States because of their illegal alien status, but why even bother with anyone? They work, they do their own thing, our country is big enough to support more people and feed plenty. I just think it's sad. My parents came here as immigrants back when Saigon was taken over by the communist in Vietnam. They had everything taken away from them in their country and fought their way over here to America. They became citizens and started a new life here. They know what it is like to have to be forced to a new place for a better opportunity and if you work hard, you can make it here. Our country was founded by immigrants, so I think we should be open to having more people here because the more diversity, the more respected (as a country) we will be.

Should our religious beliefs interfere with what should run our country? The answer to that is.. NO. There is a reason why we have the church separated from the state. Would you want to live in Puritan times where opinions are oppressed and a sin is equivalent to committing a felony? NO. With this post by Amy Sullivan, she speaks on behalf of a majority of democrats. The stereotype of a republican is a White person that is 99% religious and wants what is "best" for their country. But democrats are people, too. Just because someone believes in something completely different does not absolutely mean that they don't have a say in opinion, right? This post does talk about Trump... But how stereotypical he is by revealing how he is religious, but contradicts himself with his actions not only toward women, but everyone in general. Just because someone identifies as a republican it does not mean they are always a "good Christian," but democrats have the same identity too. I guess what this post is about is why put a label on someone when we can forget what we believe in and invest in what we need to do as humans to really make this place the "dream" country everyone wants to be in. I know religion is a touchy subject because there are still places in our country that will hide behind the bible to argue that their point is right. But let's be real here, I can guarantee those kinds of people who hide behind biblical verses saying homosexuality is a sin and pot is from Satan himself, are wearing polyester right now breaking something against the bible... It is unfortunate but I believe that if we were to truly remove our religious beliefs in office, we can have a calmer way of thinking and a set agenda to really get our country in the right place.

Commentary on a classmates blog stage 8

What does the United States of America really think of Abortion? Well in today's sense we all have our opinions on it. According to this post it should be legal. I agree with that statement one hundred percent. I as a male cannot imagine carrying a child for 9 months but if it is not by choice then a woman has every right to do what she wants with it. It is inside of her. Women need a space for them to have the procedure done. Not only do they need the space, but it really needs to be covered by insurance to help them out if they cannot afford it. The unfortunate reality is if a woman is raped and bears a child, should she keep it? IT IS NOT MY PLACE TO SAY, it is completely up to her because she did not ask for anything to happen like that. Yes blame a woman's poor choice in clothing and makeup for some man to come up and basically attack her. It's a double standard for women. If the tables were turned on men and men had to carry a baby for 9 months I can guarantee that abortion would have been legal way back when. We need to give women in need the chance to live their life how they want to. They are also citizens of our country so why not help them out?

Commentary #2

As citizens a vast majority of us break the law in a number of ways, but when you're a powerful politician or someone of high status; scheming or having a scandal is something that can tear their career apart. Senator Robert Mendez has been "chastised" for receiving gifts from a Doctor and by using his position of senator of New Jersey he's been promoting the doctor through personal and financial interest. I mean I guess it is not a crime to receive nice luxury gifts but to do it for self interest and not report all gifts received to the senate committee that does sound serious. To compare to a normal person, we see that as a drastic crime but if a regular citizen was caught doing something behind backs of many it would not be blown up to the proportion of a person of higher status. It shows that in our modern day society that we tend to seek out "drama" from people who are considered leaders. It's like a form of reality T.V. in the sense we strive off anyone's imperfections to make us feel better. Everyone is human and we are prone to mistakes, but to learn from them is what separates the grown ups from the children. What makes us different than politicians? Well the only difference is how well we all can fake smile and who would enforce change rather than just wanting it. Honestly everyone makes mistakes and a majority do not learn from them, but would they be human if they were perfect?

Trump is Nasty

For someone who leads our country, our president Donald J. Trump sure sets a double standard against himself. His actions toward women and they way he speaks about them is not okay. At least in my opinion. Many were outraged with his comment "grab 'em by the pussy" because that is very vulgar and disgusting. Just because a man that is wealthy and has had everything basically handed to him through his parent's money, does not have the right to degrade women. Women have fought hard to obtain women's rights. Many have spoken against Trump with his inappropriate behavior against him, but one woman stood out to me. The big family man who loves Melania and his child has had an affair with a former Playboy Bunny Karen McDougal. She came out publicly about the affair and apologized to Melania. Let's go back a bit and talk about Melania. The First Lady of our country right now, a woman who basically has defended her husband through all the rumors and stood by his side, and not to forget SHE REMINDED HIM TO COVER HIS HEART THROUGH THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.... She honestly is what keeps Donald grounded and look his best when people are watching, but with this scandal; how could someone have an affair with his wife? Honestly I think it is extremely low for Donald Trump to think about something like that. I get it, a former playmate could be another tally for the President, but for the sake of anything... Why disrespect women who you don't even love? Or disrespect someone you do "love?'' To me I do not find him as someone to look up to, not even for a business aspect, either. Even though the affair occurred before he was in office, Melania is still with him today.

My critique on a commentary from a National Newspaper

In our present time America has relied heavily on social media. Thanks to the Obama administration because our citizens can know more about what the Government labels as information. In the Washington post How the American government is trying to control what you think John Hamilton and Kevin Kosar argue what we really get from the government (information wise). Before the Obama administration, there were a lot of uncertainties of what we really know about what is going on. For example in 2015 with the Taxpayers Transparencies act, it would force many agencies to report their ads as a Government produced ad. A majority of the time it would not be mentioned showing the control that government wants to have on everyone. I see it as a way of a form of propaganda in the sense we always do not know what the government is funding to get Americans to think the way they want. I completely agree with the authors because they provided instances in history of scandals that needed to be exposed to show what we take in as "information" or "advocacy". This commentary is intended for the public of course, but especially the citizens who are actively looking for a way to expose all government "secrets" in a sense to really crack down what goes on behind the scenes of our government.

To Learn To Read Is To Light A Fire

What gift as humans we receive from the world is the gift of literacy. The ability to read gives us a more in depth understanding of what all possibilities are through interpretations. According to The Washington Post our President that is barely over a year into office has shared that his daily briefings that are written out for him are "not his style of learning." This article itself is a hoot. President Trump would rather hear a person speak to him with his eyes rolling back instead of his eyes going left to right. Honestly, when his daily briefings are spoken, the only thing that can possible happen is selective hearing. We all have it. We either do not want to hear truth about ourselves, or we tend to only listen to what is truly important in a class... That said, if Trump is not reading his Briefings there is a great chance that when he's being spoken to, he would not have a way of fully remembering it. It only makes sense if he has had the time and patience to read the documents, he would have a more prepared way of speaking and actually reference what he has read to sound a smidge (yes, a smidge) smarter. To sum things up why not use a quote? "He that loves reading has everything within his reach." William Godwin. Information is what progresses everything.
